Composition
The active substance is clotrimazole. One gram of cream contains 10 mg of clotrimazole. The other ingredients are: octyldodecanol, cetostearyl alcohol, cetyl palmitate, sorbitan stearate, polysorbate 60, benzyl alcohol, purified water.
Therapeutic indications
Clotrimazole Atb is an antifungal medicine.
It is useful in the local treatment of the following conditions in adults, the elderly, adolescents and children over 5 years of age:
- Skin mycoses caused by Candida albicans;
- Erythrasma;
- Dermatophytosis of the skin and hair root (tinea corporis, tinea cruris, tinea pedis, tinea Barbae, tinea capitis) caused by Trichophyton rubrum, Trichophyton mentagrophites, Epidermophyton floccosum, Microsporum canis;
- Pityriasis versicolor caused by Malassezia furfur;
- Paronychia associated with onychomycosis (fungal infection of the tissues adjacent to the nail).
Dosage and method of administration
Adults, the elderly, adolescents and children over 5 years of age:
Clotrimazole Atb 10 mg/g cream is applied locally 2 - 3 times a day, after washing and drying the affected area. The duration of treatment varies:
- generally 3 - 4 weeks in the case of dermatomycoses caused by dermatophytes and Candida;
- 2 - 4 weeks in the case of erythrasma;
- 1 - 3 weeks in the case of pityriasis versicolor.
To prevent the recurrence of the condition, treatment of fungal infections will be continued for approximately 2 weeks after the symptoms have disappeared.
The efficacy and safety of clotrimazole use in children under 5 years of age have not been established.
Precautions
The medicine is intended for treatment on the skin. Before applying, wash the affected area (preferably with an alkaline soap) and dry it. Do not apply the cream to the area around the eyes, nose and mouth, on mucous membranes or on open wounds. If the cream accidentally comes into contact with the eyes, wash the affected area with plenty of clean water; if adverse reactions occur that persist, it is necessary to consult a doctor.
To cure interdigital mycoses ("athlete's foot"), it is recommended to powder the socks and the inside of the shoes with talcum powder or another absorbent powder. The feet should be washed and dried very well, especially in the affected area.
If irritation or allergic reactions occur at the site of application during treatment with Clotrimazole Atb, discontinue treatment and consult your doctor.
Special warnings
Pregnancy, breastfeeding, fertility
There are no controlled clinical studies in pregnant women. It is recommended to avoid using clotrimazole in the first trimester of pregnancy. In the second and third trimesters of pregnancy, clotrimazole should only be used if absolutely necessary, after careful evaluation by the doctor of the potential fetal risk/maternal therapeutic benefit ratio.
Since it is not known whether clotrimazole applied locally is excreted in human milk, it should be administered with caution to breastfeeding women, only on the recommendation of a doctor.
Driving and using machines
It has no influence on the ability to drive and use machines.
Packaging
It is available in boxes with an aluminum tube containing 35 g of cream.
