Composition
The active substance is phenylbutazone. One gram of cream contains 40 mg phenylbutazone. The other components are: camphor, menthol, cetostearyl alcohol emulsifying type A, polysorbate 80, glycerol, white petrolatum, methyl p-hydroxybenzoate, n-propyl p-hydroxybenzoate, purified water.
Therapeutic indications
Phenylbutazone belongs to the class of medicines known as topical medicines for joint and muscle pain, non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs for topical use.
Phenylbutazone Atb is used for the relief of pain, inflammation and edema in acute gout, rheumatoid arthritis, synovitis, osteoarthritis and ankylosing spondylitis.
Dosage and administration
Always use this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you are not
sure.
Apply the cream locally 2-3 times a day, on the skin surface corresponding to the affected area and massage
gently. Wash your hands after each application, unless this is the area to be treated.
This medicine is not recommended for children under 7 years of age.
Administer this medicine with caution to children over 7 years of age.
Precautions
Apply phenylbutazone with caution if:
- You suffer from bronchial asthma or other allergies. In case of a hypersensitivity reaction, treatment should be discontinued;
- You suffer from gastrointestinal conditions;
- You suffer from severe heart, liver, or kidney conditions;
- You have systemic lupus erythematosus;
- You have high blood pressure, G6PD deficiency (glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase), blood clotting dysfunctions, thyroid dysfunction, a condition known as porphyria.
Special warnings
Pregnancy, breastfeeding, fertility
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine. It is not recommended to use this medicine in the first two trimesters of pregnancy and it is contraindicated in the third trimester.
Do not use phenylbutazone during breastfeeding. Do not apply phenylbutazone to the breasts.
Driving vehicles and operating machinery
The systemic diffusion of phenylbutazone after cutaneous administration has not been evaluated. Systemically administered phenylbutazone can cause adverse reactions such as blurred vision or dizziness. By extrapolation, use this medicine with caution if you drive vehicles or operate machinery.
