On the American continent it is simply called Coke (a brand of The Coca-Cola Company in the United States of America since March 27, 1944) or (in Europe and America) cola or popular Coca-Cola was invented in the late 19th century (1886) by John Pemberton, a pharmacist from Atlanta. It was originally patented as a medicine. Later, the license was bought by businessman Asa Griggs Candler. The marketing tactics used by him led the product to dominate the soft drink market in the 20th century.
