In 1917 A.C. Powell, a farmer from New Mexico opens his own company: The Mountain Pass Canning Company. With a 7-hectare farm, he managed to become one of the first companies to produce canned tomatoes and beans.
In 1938 The Mountain Pass Canning Co. registers Old El Paso as a brand. It was the first brand to produce hot sauce outside of Mexico and which turned it into a symbol through the Hot Taco Sauce.
