Composition. The active substance is diphenhydramine hydrochloride. The other components are: peanut oil, white wax, cetyl alcohol, solid paraffin, white petrolatum, methyl p-hydroxybenzoate (0.15% w/w), glycerol, hostacerin T-3, polysorbate 80, isobornyl acetate, sodium hydroxide, purified water.
Therapeutic indications.
Dermodrin belongs to the class of medicines called topical antihistamines and is an ointment that acts against the manifestations of allergies due to histamine release (antihistamine) such as: redness, skin itching, and pain. Additionally, it reduces or prevents the appearance of skin swelling caused by allergies. Dermodrin ointment acts as an oil-in-water emulsion and has a cooling effect, thus increasing the pain-relieving effect. The effect is felt shortly after applying the ointment and lasts for 2 to 6 hours.
Dosage and administration.
Usual dose: Unless otherwise recommended by the doctor, apply an amount of 1 to 3 g Dermodrin ointment (corresponding to a cherry-sized to walnut-sized amount) to the affected skin area.
Adults repeat this application 4 to 6 times a day.
Children: a maximum of 4-5 applications daily are recommended.
Precautions.
Take special care when using DERMODRIN
- If the treated skin areas are exposed to sunlight for long periods, this may cause hypersensitivity reactions (allergies)
- If symptoms persist or the expected effect is not achieved, please consult a doctor.
After using the medicine, please wash your hands, as Dermodrin should not come into contact with the eyes.
Special warnings.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Consult your doctor or pharmacist for recommendations before taking any medicine. Dermodrin should not be used in the first 3 months of pregnancy. During the rest of the pregnancy, application to large areas of the body, especially if the skin is inflamed or wounded, should be avoided. Dermodrin should not be used during breastfeeding, as the active substance (diphenhydramine) can pass into breast milk.
