Therapeutic indications.
Contractubex is used for the treatment of various types of scars, after healing of the lesions.
Contractubex acts to stop the proliferation of scar tissue and has a flattening and relaxing effect on this tissue. It also reduces redness, heat, inflammation and pain (anti-inflammatory).
Contractubex is indicated for patients with scars that limit movement, hypertrophic scars, keloids (scars that are thickened, raised and sometimes differently coloured from the surrounding skin), disfiguring post-operative scars, after amputations, burns and accidents; after contractures such as Dupuytren's contracture (hand contracture) and traumatic tendon contractures as well as atrophic scars (scars that form depressions or wrinkles in the skin).
Dosage and method of administration.
Always use Contractubex exactly as described in this leaflet. You should talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
Unless otherwise prescribed by your doctor, the usual dose is one application several times a day and gently massage the scar tissue until the gel is completely absorbed. If the scars are hard and old, Contractubex is left to act overnight under a bandage.
Children
Since the efficacy and tolerance of Contractubex in children under 1 year of age are not known, the use of Contractubex is not recommended in this category.
Contractubex can be used in children over 1 year of age, 1-2 applications per day, on the express advice of a doctor and only if he considers that the benefits outweigh the potential risks.
Precautions.
Before using Contractubex, talk to your doctor or pharmacist. Contractubex contains paraben (methyl-4-hydroxybenzoate), which can cause allergic reactions (even delayed).
Contractubex contains sorbic acid which can cause local skin reactions (e.g. contact dermatitis). In children, Contractubex will only be used if the doctor considers that the benefits outweigh the risks. There are special instructions for children.
Special warnings.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any medicine. The risks during pregnancy and breastfeeding are not yet known.
Driving and using machines
Contractubex has no influence on the ability to drive and use machines.
