Composition.
The active substance is acetylsalicylic acid. One gastro-resistant tablet contains 100 mg of acetylsalicylic acid. The other ingredients are: lactose monohydrate, microcrystalline cellulose, colloidal anhydrous silica, potato starch, talc, triacetin, methacrylic acid - ethyl acrylate copolymer (1:1) dispersion 30%.
Therapeutic indications.
Thrombo ASS contains the active substance acetylsalicylic acid, which inhibits platelet aggregation at relatively low doses and thereby reduces the formation of blood clots. Administration in the form of gastro-resistant tablets reduces the adverse effects of acetylsalicylic acid on the stomach.
Thrombo ASS is indicated for:
- reducing the risk of myocardial infarction (heart attack) in patients with angina pectoris (severe chest pain),
- reducing the risk of coronary vessel occlusion (blockage of heart vessels) after myocardial infarction,
- preventing coronary artery thrombosis (blood clot formation) after vascular surgery, for example coronary bypass (surgical procedure to bypass narrowed coronary arteries),
- preventing recurrent transient ischemic attacks and cerebral infarction (caused when blood and oxygen flow to part of the brain is completely or partially interrupted by a blood clot),
- preventing cardiovascular events in patients with diabetes mellitus at high cardiovascular risk (events affecting the heart or vascular system), such as angina pectoris (chest pain) or myocardial infarction.
Dosage and method of administration.
Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
For individual dose adjustment, the following strengths of Thrombo ASS are available: 50 mg, 75 mg and 100 mg.
The recommended dose is:
Adults
- for reducing the risk of myocardial infarction in patients with angina pectoris: 75–150 mg acetylsalicylic acid per day.
- for reducing the risk of coronary vessel occlusion (heart vessels) after myocardial infarction: 75–150 mg acetylsalicylic acid per day.
- for the prevention of coronary vessel thrombosis after vascular surgery, for example coronary bypass: 75–150 mg acetylsalicylic acid per day
- for the prevention of recurrent transient ischemic attacks and cerebral infarction: 50–300 mg acetylsalicylic acid per day
- for the prevention of cardiovascular events in patients with diabetes mellitus at high cardiovascular risk: 100 mg acetylsalicylic acid per day, 75 mg acetylsalicylic acid per day in special cases.
The gastro-resistant tablets should be swallowed whole with a sufficient amount of liquid, during or after meals, at approximately the same time of day. Do not chew or divide Thrombo ASS gastro-resistant tablets, as this may damage the gastro-resistant coating that protects the stomach lining.
Precautions.
Acetylsalicylic acid may cause Reye's syndrome when given to children. Reye's syndrome is a very rare disease that affects the brain and liver, and can be life-threatening. For this reason, Thrombo ASS should not be given to children under 16 years of age unless recommended by a doctor.
Before using Thrombo ASS, consult your doctor or pharmacist:
- if you are allergic to other pain relievers (analgesics), anti-inflammatory medicines, or medicines used to treat rheumatism.
- if you have had high blood pressure or a heart condition (heart failure).
- if you have ever had gout.
- if you experience heavy menstrual bleeding.
Special warnings.
Pregnancy, breastfeeding and fertility
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine. Do not use Thrombo ASS if you are in the third trimester of pregnancy. During the first two trimesters of pregnancy, take Thrombo ASS only if your doctor advises you to do so. During breastfeeding, take Thrombo ASS only if your doctor advises you to do so. Thrombo ASS may impair female fertility by affecting ovulation.
Driving and using machines
No effects on the ability to drive or use machines are expected.
