Smecta Orange from Ipsen is an over-the-counter medicine designed for the symptomatic treatment of acute and chronic diarrhea in adults, children, and infants. This pack contains 10 sachets of diosmectite powder, which also helps relieve pain from digestive issues. The powder dissolves easily in water and features a pleasant orange and vanilla flavor, making it much easier to take when you are feeling unwell.
Description
Composition.
The active substance is diosmectite. Each sachet contains 3 g diosmectite. The other components are: glucose monohydrate, saccharin sodium, vanilla flavour, orange flavour.
Therapeutic indications.
Smecta is used for:
- symptomatic treatment of acute diarrhoea in children, infants (in combination with oral rehydration) and adults.
- symptomatic treatment of chronic diarrhoea.
- symptomatic treatment of pain associated with esophagogastroduodenal and colonic conditions.
Dosage and method of administration.
Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
Treatment of acute diarrhoea
- Infants under 1 year of age: the recommended dose is 2 sachets per day, administered for 3 days, then 1 sachet per day.
- Children over 1 year of age: the recommended dose is 4 sachets per day, administered for 3 days, then 2 sachets per day.
- Adults: The recommended daily dose is 6 sachets per day.
Treatment for other indications:
- Infants under 1 year of age: 1 sachet per day.
- Children aged between 1 year and 2 years: 1 to 2 sachets per day.
- Children over 2 years of age: 2 to 3 sachets per day.
- Adults: The recommended daily dose is 3 sachets per day
The contents of a sachet must be dissolved before administration. Smecta is preferably administered:
- after meals in esophagitis;
- between meals in other conditions
Precautions.
Smecta should be used with caution in patients with a history of severe chronic constipation.
Treatment must be combined with dietary rules:
? rehydration with saline solutions or sweetened liquids (sucrose), to compensate for fluid loss due to dehydration (in adults, the average daily water intake is 2 l);
? excluding certain foods from the diet, especially raw vegetables, green fruits and vegetables, spicy foods, as well as cold foods and drinks, and focusing mainly on grilled meat and rice.

Fertility, pregnancy and breastfeeding
Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any medicine. The use of Smecta during pregnancy is not recommended unless advised by your doctor.
