Composition.
The active substance is simethicone. Each soft capsule contains 40 mg simethicone.
The other ingredients are: methyl parahydroxybenzoate (E 218), gelatin, glycerol (85%), quinoline yellow (E 104), sunset yellow FCF (E 110).
Therapeutic indications.
Espumisan treats the symptoms of flatulence (excessive gas accumulation) and is indicated for all age groups. It acts by disintegrating gas bubbles in the food bolus and in the mucus of the digestive tract. The gases released during this process can be absorbed (taken up) through the intestinal wall or eliminated through bowel movements.
Espumisan is used:
- to treat gastrointestinal symptoms with gas accumulation (meteorism), flatulence or excessive gas formation in the intestine after operations;
- for preparation for diagnostic examination of the abdomen (e.g., in radiography and sonography, endoscopic examination; as an adjuvant to contrast agent suspensions).
Espumisan is indicated for children from 6 years of age, adolescents and adults.
Dosage and administration.
Always take this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
The recommended dose is:
Children over 6 years, adolescents, adults: 2 capsules 3-4 times a day.
Espumisan should be taken during or after meals and also before bedtime, if necessary.
Precautions.
Before taking Espumisan L, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
Symptoms due to gas can also be a sign of more serious problems in the stomach or intestines. Symptoms may include:
- A feeling of pressure and fullness
- Belching
- Intestinal noises
