Description:
Postinor-1 is an emergency contraceptive that can be used within the first 72 hours (3 days) after unprotected sexual intercourse or if your usual contraceptive method has failed. It prevents approximately 84% of possible pregnancies if taken within the first 72 hours after unprotected sexual intercourse.
Properties:
It is used in the following situations: no contraceptive method was used during sexual intercourse; the contraceptive method was used incorrectly, for example if a condom was perforated, slipped, or used improperly, if the ovule or vaginal diaphragm changed its position, broke, was torn, or removed too early, in the case of a failed withdrawal during interrupted coitus (for example, sperm was ejaculated into the vagina or on the external genitalia).
It prevents the ovaries from releasing an egg.
It prevents sperm from fertilizing any egg that may have already been released.
Ingredients:
The active substance is levonorgestrel. Each orodispersible tablet contains 1500 micrograms of levonorgestrel.
The other ingredients are: Mannitol (E421), Pregelatinized maize starch, Low-substituted hydroxypropylcellulose, Crospovidone type B, Sodium stearyl fumarate, Opadry orange 03A230010 (Hypromellose 2910, Titanium dioxide (E 171), Sunset yellow FCF aluminium lake (E 110), Yellow iron oxide (E 172), Indigo carmine aluminium lake (E 132)), Anhydrous colloidal silicon dioxide, Aspartame (E 951), Orange flavour (maize maltodextrin, flavouring components, alpha-tocopherol (E307)).
Method of administration:
Always take this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your pharmacist has told you. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure. Take the tablet as soon as possible, preferably within the first 12 hours, but no later than 72 hours (3 days) after you have had unprotected sexual intercourse. Do not delay taking the tablet. The sooner you take the tablet after unprotected sexual intercourse, the better it works.
The tablet will only help you not to become pregnant if you take it within 72 hours after unprotected sexual intercourse.
Postinor-1 can be taken at any time of the menstrual cycle, assuming you are not already pregnant or think you might be pregnant. Remove the tablet from the blister by pressing with dry hands. The orodispersible tablet should be placed on the tongue, where it will dissolve and can be swallowed with saliva. Do not chew the tablet.
