Aronia is a type of shrub native to North America, which at the beginning of the 20th century began to be cultivated in Eastern Europe for the production of wines and juices. Of the 3 species, Aronia arbutifolia, Aronia prunifolia and Aronia melanocarpa, the latter has the highest antioxidant content.

The superfood status received by these small black fruits comes from the fact that they have a very high antioxidant power, surpassing acai berries, blueberries, raspberries, cranberries and Goji berries.
