About the manufacturer
Ferrero SpA is an Italian manufacturer of chocolate and other sweet products. It was founded by Pietro Ferrero in 1946 in an Italian town. The company found success under the leadership of Pietro's son, Michele Ferrero, who took over his father's shares.
In 1946, Pietro Ferrero invented a chocolate-hazelnut spread that could be spread on bread, called Pasta Gianduja. Ferrero then created the company that would produce this spread. After his son Michelle took over management, he modified the recipe to create Nutella, which was first sold in 1964 and became popular worldwide.
The company places great emphasis on secrecy, to protect itself against industrial espionage. No press conferences have ever been held, and the media is not allowed access to the factories.
The company produces many other assortments such as: Ferrero Rocher, Pocket Coffee, Mon Chéri, Giotto, Confatteria Raffaello, Hanuta wafers, Kinder as well as Tic Tac mint candies.
The company also produces the Kinder series which includes: Kinder Surprise, Fiesta Ferrero, Kinder Chocolate bars, Kinder Happy Hippo, Kinder Maxi, Kinder Duplo, Kinder Delice, Kinder Pingui and Kinder Bueno.
Recently, Ferrero added an assortment of frozen products called Gran Soleil. It is a frozen dessert that must be refrigerated before consumption. The company received an innovation award for the product in March 2011.
