Composition.
The active substance is diosmectite. Each sachet contains diosmectite 3 g. The other components are: glucose monohydrate, sodium saccharin, vanilla flavor, orange flavor.
Therapeutic indications.
Smecta is used for:
- symptomatic treatment of acute diarrhea in children, infants (in association with oral rehydration) and adults.
- symptomatic treatment of chronic diarrhea.
- symptomatic treatment of pain associated with esophago-gastro-duodenal and colonic disorders.
Dosage and administration.
Always take this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
Treatment of acute diarrhea
- Infants under 1 year of age: the recommended dose is 2 sachets per day, administered for 3 days, then 1 sachet per day.
- Children over 1 year of age: the recommended dose is 4 sachets per day, administered for 3 days, then 2 sachets per day.
- Adults: The recommended daily dose is 6 sachets per day.
Treatment of other indications:
- Infants under 1 year of age: 1 sachet per day.
- Children between 1 and 2 years of age: 1 to 2 sachets per day.
- Children over 2 years of age: 2 to 3 sachets per day.
- Adults: The recommended daily dose is 3 sachets per day
The content of one sachet must be dissolved before administration. Smecta is preferably administered:
- after meals, in esophagitis;
- between meals, in other conditions
Precautions.
Smecta should be used with caution in patients with a history of severe chronic constipation.
Treatment should be associated with dietary rules:
¿ rehydration with saline solutions or sweetened liquids (sucrose), to compensate for fluid loss due to dehydration (in adults, the average daily water intake is 2 l);
¿ exclusion from the diet of certain foods, especially raw foods, green fruits and vegetables, spicy foods, as well as cold foods and drinks, and to contain especially grilled meat and rice.

Fertility, pregnancy and breastfeeding
Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any medicine. The use of Smecta during pregnancy is not recommended unless advised by your doctor.
