The other components are: microcrystalline cellulose, colloidal silicon dioxide, sodium lauryl sulfate, croscarmellose sodium, stearic acid, coating film: hypromellose 15cP (E 464), lactose monohydrate, titanium dioxide (E 171), macrogol 4000, citric acid monohydrate (E 330), methacrylic acid copolymer C, talc, titanium dioxide (E 171), triethyl citrate (E 1505), anhydrous colloidal silicon dioxide, sodium hydrogen carbonate (E 500), sodium lauryl sulfate.
Therapeutic indications
Protecardin is intended for administration in adults.
Protecardin contains acetylsalicylic acid as the active substance.
Acetylsalicylic acid (Protecardin) belongs to a group of medicines called antiplatelet agents. Protecardin works by preventing the aggregation ("sticking") of blood cells called platelets (or blood platelets) and thus prevents the formation of blood clots (thrombi).
Due to this effect, Protecardin is used for:
- Prevention of recurrent myocardial infarction and stroke (transient ischemic attack and cerebral infarction);
- Reduction of the risk of myocardial infarction in patients with angina pectoris (known as chronic painful ischemic heart disease), or with multiple risk factors, such as: arterial hypertension, increased blood lipid levels (hypercholesterolemia), smoking, diabetes mellitus, and family history;
- Maintenance of blood circulation in the heart's blood vessels after certain surgical interventions (vascular surgery, percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty, coronary bypass).
Important: Protecardin is not intended for the treatment of pain or fever; for this purpose, other medicines containing acetylsalicylic acid in appropriate doses (500 mg) should be used.
Dosage and administration
Adults: for long-term treatment, the usual dose is 1-2 gastro-resistant Protecardin tablets, once a day.
In short-term treatment, at the recommendation of the treating physician, in acute coronary syndrome or ischemic stroke, higher doses, up to 300 mg acetylsalicylic acid, may be appropriate. Subsequently, treatment will continue with the recommended dose for long-term treatment.
Precautions
Protecardin should not be administered to children and adolescents, due to the risk of Reye's syndrome (manifested by: persistent vomiting, dehydration, impaired consciousness, and seizures
