About the producer
Pilsner Urquell is one of the brands that have written the history of beer. It was launched in 1842 in Plzeň (or Pilsen), a city in the Czech Republic that had beer production rights since 1295.
What they did differently was to identify a recipe that would make a golden, filtered, clear beer, like never seen before. They named it Pilsner, a name inspired by the name of the city where they produced it. And because many beer producers tried to copy the recipe, they decided in 1898 to make it a registered trademark. Thus they established the name Pilsner Urquell, where Urquell means "original source".
Today, Pilsner Urquell beer is produced in the same factory where it was invented, using the same method and recipe from back then. Their invention was so valuable that 70% of the beers consumed nowadays are inspired by the Pilsner recipe.
