Temperature Measurement Methods
Rectal Measurement
From a medical point of view, rectal measurement is the most accurate measurement method because it best approximates the body's internal temperature. For this, the tip of the thermometer is carefully inserted into the rectal opening (maximum 2 cm). The usual measurement time is approximately 40-60 seconds.
Axillary Measurement
An axillary measurement establishes a surface temperature, which, unlike the temperature measured rectally, can differ in adults by approx. 0.5 degrees C - 1.5 degrees C. The usual measurement time for this method is approx. 90 seconds. In this case, it must be taken into account that, for example, in the case of a cooled axillary area, an exact measurement result cannot be established. To obtain the most accurate measurement result possible, which corresponds as closely as possible to the body's internal temperature, we recommend extending the measurement time by 5 minutes.
Oral Measurement
The temperature in the oral cavity is not homogeneous. Oral temperature is usually 0.3 degrees C - 0.8 degrees C lower than the temperature measured rectally. For measurement accuracy, place the tip of the thermometer to the left or right of the root of the tongue. The measuring tip must have permanent contact with the tissue during measurement and must be placed under the tongue, behind one of the two cavities beneath it. Keep your mouth closed and breathe evenly through your nose. Do not consume food or drinks before measurement. The usual measurement time is approximately 60 seconds.
Note:
Please note that Thermoval standard is a maximum measurement thermometer, which means that the displayed temperature may increase if the measurement continues after the acoustic signal.
For determining internal temperature, rectal measurement is recommended as the most accurate method, as well as extending the measurement time by 3
