Mucosolvan syrup is indicated in acute and chronic respiratory diseases, acute exacerbations in COPD or for the prevention of postoperative pulmonary complications. Mucosolvan is a metabolite derived from bromhexine (Bisolvon). Mucosolvan is a mucoregulator, having a more complex mechanism of action compared to mucolytic, expectorant, and secretolytic products.

Mucosolvan has a high affinity for lung tissue, reaching higher levels in lung tissue than in plasma. The therapeutic effect sets in 30 minutes after oral administration and lasts 8-12 hours. Through its complex action, Mucosolvan improves respiratory symptoms, reduces the number of exacerbations, and reduces pulmonary functional degradation.

Method of administration:

- Adults and adolescents (children over 12 years): 10 ml Mucosolvan 30 mg/5 ml syrup (2 measuring spoons) twice a day. This regimen is recommended for the treatment of acute respiratory conditions and for initiating the treatment of chronic conditions for a maximum of 14 days.

- Children between 6 – 12 years: 5 ml Mucosolvan 30 mg/5 ml syrup 2 – 3 times a day.

- Children between 2 – 5 years: 2.5 ml Mucosolvan 30 mg/5 ml syrup 3 times a day.

- Children between 1 – 2 years: 2.5 ml Mucosolvan 30 mg/5 ml syrup 2 times a day.

For children, Mucosolvan 15 mg/ml syrup is also available and recommended.

If your symptoms have not improved after treatment with Mucosolvan for acute respiratory conditions, you should consult your doctor.

Mucosolvan syrup can be administered with or without food. Mucosolvan syrup should not be used for more than 4 - 5 days without a doctor's recommendation.

Contraindications:

It is not recommended for patients with hypersensitivity to ambroxol or other components of the product. Practically, Mucosolvan has no contraindications, being a well-tolerated product for all ages.

Precautions: Orally administered Mucosolvan does not require precautions.

Pregnancy and breastfeeding: As there is no information regarding the use of Mucosolvan in pregnancy up to 28 weeks, administration in the first trimester of pregnancy should only be done under medical supervision. There is well-documented clinical experience regarding the use of Mucosolvan in women with pregnancies older than 28 weeks: Mucosolvan was administered intravenously, in doses greater than 1000 mg per day, to pregnant women at risk of premature birth, for the prophylaxis of neonatal respiratory distress syndrome. Mucosolvan passes into breast milk, but it has not been shown to have adverse effects on the infant at therapeutic doses.

Possible side effects

Mucosolvan is generally well tolerated. Rarely, gastrointestinal disorders or allergic reactions may occur, especially in atopic patients.

Interactions with other medicines: Concomitant administration of Mucosolvan and antibiotics (amoxicillin, cefuroxime, erythromycin, doxycycline) leads to an increase in antibiotic concentration in lung tissue. No unfavorable interactions with other medicines are known.

Storage conditions: Store in a dry place, at a temperature not exceeding 25 degrees Celsius. Keep out of reach of children.
