Zovirax Duo contains two active substances: acyclovir and hydrocortisone. Acyclovir is an active substance with antiviral effect, which helps to combat the virus that causes herpes. Hydrocortisone is a low-potency corticosteroid, which reduces inflammation associated with herpes.
Zovirax Duo cream is used for the treatment of early signs and symptoms of herpes (e.g., tingling, itching, or redness) on the lips and skin adjacent to the lips, to reduce the likelihood of herpes progressing to blister formation in adults and adolescents (12 years and over).
Even if herpes progresses to blister formation, Zovirax Duo will shorten the healing process by approximately 12-24 hours, compared to a cream that does not contain these two active substances.
Labial herpes is caused by a virus called herpes simplex. The virus causes the appearance of blisters and ulcers predominantly on the lips, but can sometimes also appear in other areas of the face. Herpes can appear when the body's immune system is weakened, for example, when you have caught a cold or another infection. Stress, exposure to strong sun, low temperatures, or menstruation can also cause herpes to appear.
You should consult a doctor if your symptoms persist 5 days after you have stopped the treatment.
