Composition.
The active substance is xylometazoline hydrochloride, 1 milliliter of solution containing 1 mg. 1 spray of Maresyl 1 mg/ml (= 90 microliters) contains 90 micrograms of xylometazoline hydrochloride. The other components are purified sea water, potassium dihydrogen phosphate and purified water.
Therapeutic indications.
The active substance in this medicine is xylometazoline. It causes constriction of blood vessels in the nasal mucosa, thereby reducing its swelling due to various causes, and makes nasal breathing easier.
Maresyl is used for the short-term treatment of nasal congestion. If you do not feel better or feel worse after 3 days, you should consult a doctor.
Dosage and administration.
Before first use, it is necessary to spray several times (4 times) into the air to ensure dose uniformity. The bottle must be held in an upright position. If the medicine has not been used for several days, at least one test spray into the air must be performed to obtain a uniform dose.
Maresyl 1 mg/ml is indicated for the treatment of nasal congestion in children aged at least 10 years and in adults.
Dosage
The usual dose is 1-2 sprays in each nostril, at intervals of 10-12 hours (no more than three times a day) for a maximum of 7 days.
Maresyl 1 mg/ml is not recommended for children under 10 years of age.
Patients under 10 years of age should use Maresyl 0.5 mg/ml.
The duration of treatment should be as short as possible. After long-term treatment, swelling of the mucosa (the layer lining the inside of the nose) may reappear. The recommended dose should not be exceeded.
Precautions.
Before using Maresyl, consult your doctor or pharmacist if you have:
- a tendency to hypersensitivity to sympathomimetics (medicines such as adrenaline); Maresyl may cause insomnia, dizziness, tremor, heart rhythm disturbances or increased blood pressure.
- cardiovascular disease (heart disease, high blood pressure)
- hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid gland)
- diabetes mellitus
- pheochromocytoma (a tumor in the adrenal medulla, which produces hormones)
- prostatic hypertrophy (enlarged prostate)
- congenital diseases caused by enzymatic defects (porphyria)
- you have been treated with a medicine for depression (MAO inhibitors)
- increased pressure inside the eye (narrow-angle glaucoma)
Special warnings.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
Pregnant or breastfeeding women should consult a doctor before using this medicine.
Pregnancy
If you are pregnant, think you may be pregnant or are planning to become pregnant, ask your doctor for advice before taking this medicine.
Breastfeeding
It is not known whether xylometazoline passes into human milk. A risk to the infant cannot be excluded. A decision must be made whether to discontinue breastfeeding or to discontinue/not use Maresyl, taking into account the benefit of breastfeeding for the child and the benefit of treatment for the woman.
Since overdose can lead to decreased milk production, the recommended dose of xylometazoline should not be exceeded during breastfeeding.
Consult your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any medicine.
Driving and using machines
If taken appropriately, this medicine does not affect the ability to drive or use machines; however, if you feel drowsy or sleepy when using this medicine, you should not drive or use machines.
