Composition.
The active substance is xylometazoline hydrochloride, 1 mg per milliliter of solution. Each spray of Olynth 1 mg/ml (= 0.140 ml) contains 140 µg (or 0.140 mg) of xylometazoline hydrochloride. The other components are: disodium edetate, sodium chloride, sodium dihydrogen phosphate dihydrate, disodium hydrogen phosphate dihydrate, sorbitol (E420), benzalkonium chloride, solution and purified water.
Therapeutic indications.
Olynth contains xylometazoline, which helps reduce nasal mucosal congestion, reducing inflammation of the mucous membrane (nasal mucosa), to help you breathe more easily.
The medicine is used for the short-term treatment of nasal congestion accompanied by nasal discharge, associated with colds or sinusitis.
Dosage and administration.
Adults and children and adolescents over 12 years of age.
Unless otherwise recommended by your doctor or pharmacist, use one puff of Olynth 1 mg/ml in each nostril up to 3 times a day, for a maximum of 7 days.
Do not exceed the recommended dose.
To reduce the risk of infection transmission, each bottle should be used by only one person, and the nozzle should be rinsed after each use.
DO NOT use this medicine in children under 12 years of age.
Precautions.
Consult your doctor or pharmacist before using this medicine if you or your child:
- have strong reactions to sympathomimetic medicines (adrenaline-type medicines) because the use of Olynth can cause insomnia, vertigo, tremor, abnormal heartbeats or an increase in blood pressure.
- have heart problems, blood vessel problems or high blood pressure
- have increased thyroid gland activity, diabetes mellitus or other metabolic diseases
- have adrenal gland disorders
- have an enlarged prostate (prostatic hypertrophy).
Continuous use of the medicine for long periods can lead to worsening of congestion symptoms.
Special warnings.
Pregnancy and breastfeeding
If you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant or are planning to become pregnant, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any medicine. Olynth should not be used during pregnancy as its effect on the unborn child is unknown. If you are breastfeeding, talk to your doctor before using this medicine. It is not known whether the active substance passes into breast milk.
Driving and using machines
Olynth has no known effect on the ability to drive vehicles and use machines.
