Composition.

The active substance is loperamide hydrochloride. One orodispersible tablet contains 2 mg loperamide hydrochloride. The other components are gelatin, mannitol, aspartame, mint flavor, sodium hydrogen carbonate.

Therapeutic indications.

Imodium is indicated for the symptomatic control of acute and chronic diarrhea. Imodium belongs to the group of antidiarrheal, anti-inflammatory/intestinal antiseptic medicines, being an antipropulsive. In case of diarrhea, Imodium makes stools more consistent and less frequent. You may also be recommended Imodium if part of your intestine has been removed, as this can frequently cause diarrhea.

Dosage and administration.

The dose of Imodium you should use will depend on your age and the type of diarrhea.

The orodispersible tablet should be placed on the tongue.

Orodispersible tablets are fragile and should not be pushed through the blister, as this would damage them.

To remove orodispersible tablets from the blister:

¿ pull up the edge of the foil

¿ peel off the foil completely

¿ press to push out the tablet

¿ remove the tablet

Adults (including elderly), children and adolescents aged between 6 and 17 years

- for acute diarrhea (a sudden episode), administer 2 Imodium orodispersible tablets (4 mg loperamide hydrochloride) at once, then 1 Imodium tablet (2 mg loperamide hydrochloride) after each loose stool. If you have a solid or hard stool or if 24 hours pass without a bowel movement, discontinue treatment.

- for long-term (chronic) diarrhea, the initial dose is 2 orodispersible tablets (4 mg) per day for adults and 1 orodispersible tablet (2mg) per day for children; this initial dose should be adjusted until 1-2 solid stools per day are achieved, a result usually reached with a maintenance dose of 1-6 tablets (2-12 mg) per day.

However: Do not administer more than the recommended daily dose and per kilogram of your child's body weight (3 orodispersible tablets/20 kg), which should not exceed a maximum of 8 orodispersible tablets per day).

Precautions.

Do not take this medicine except for the approved indication and never take more than the recommended amount. Serious heart problems (symptoms including fast or irregular heartbeats) have been reported in patients who have taken too much loperamide, the active substance in Imodium.

Special warnings.

Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any medicine. If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking Imodium.
