Composition.
The active substance is simethicone.
Each milliliter of oral drops, emulsion (25 drops) contains 40 mg of simethicone.
The other ingredients are: macrogol stearate, glycerol monostearate, carbomers, acesulfame potassium, liquid sorbitol, sodium chloride, sodium citrate, sodium hydroxide, sorbic acid, banana flavor (flavoring substances identical to natural ones and propylene glycol), purified water.
Therapeutic indications.
Espumisan treats the symptoms of flatulence (excessive accumulation of gas) and is indicated for all age groups. It works by disintegrating gas bubbles in the food bolus and in the mucus in the digestive tract. The gases released during this process can be absorbed (taken up) through the intestinal wall or eliminated through bowel movements.
Espumisan is used:
- to treat gastrointestinal symptoms with gas accumulation (meteorism), flatulence or excessive gas formation in the intestine after surgery;
- to prepare for diagnostic examination of the abdomen (for example, in radiography and sonography, endoscopic examination; as an adjuvant to suspensions with contrast agents).
- As a foam dispersing agent after poisoning with detergents (surfactants).
Dosage and method of administration.
Always use Espumisan exactly as described in this leaflet. You should talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
There are two ways to measure the dose of Espumisan:
Shake the bottle before use.
Using the dropper for dosing:
hold the bottle upside down. 25 drops (1 milliliter of oral emulsion) contain 40 mg of simethicone.
The recommended dose is:
Infants - 25 drops in each bottle or in a teaspoon before each breastfeeding
1-6 years - 25 drops 3-5 times a day
6-14 - 25-50 drops 3-5 times a day
Adolescents and adults - 50 drops 3-5 times a day
Espumisan L can also be administered after surgery.
Espumisan L is taken during or after meals and also before bedtime, if necessary.
Espumisan L is taken for as long as symptoms are present.
Precautions.
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Espumisan L.
Symptoms due to gas can also be a sign of more serious problems in the stomach or intestines. Symptoms may include:
- A feeling of pressure and fullness
- Belching
- Intestinal noises
- Bloating
If these symptoms occur and/or persist, you should see a doctor. They will investigate whether there is another disease that requires appropriate treatment
Special warnings.
Pregnancy, breastfeeding and fertility
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.
No negative effects are anticipated if Espumisan L is taken during pregnancy and breastfeeding because the active substance simethicone is not absorbed from the stomach and intestines into the blood. However, there is no clinical data for the use of Espumisan L in pregnant women.
Driving and using machines
No special precautions are necessary.
Packaging. Espumisan L is available in a box with a glass bottle with a dropper, containing 30 ml of oral drops, emulsion, closed with a screw cap.
