Composition.
The active substance is xylometazoline hydrochloride, 0.5 mg per milliliter of solution. Each spray of Olynth 0.5 mg/ml (= 0.070 ml) contains 35 ¿g (or 0.035 mg) of xylometazoline hydrochloride. The other ingredients are: sodium edetate, sodium chloride, sodium dihydrogen phosphate dihydrate, disodium hydrogen phosphate dihydrate, sorbitol (E420), benzalkonium chloride, solution and purified water.
Therapeutic indications.
Olynth contains xylometazoline, which helps to reduce nasal congestion by reducing inflammation of the mucous membrane (nasal mucosa), to help you breathe more easily.
The medicine is used for the short-term treatment of nasal congestion with nasal discharge, associated with the common cold or sinusitis.
Dosage and method of administration.
Children aged 2- 12 years.
Unless otherwise recommended by your doctor or pharmacist, use one spray of Olynth 0.5 mg/ml in each nostril up to 3 times a day, for a maximum of 7 days.
Do not exceed the recommended dose.
To reduce the risk of spreading infection, each bottle should be used by one person only, and the nozzle should be rinsed after each use.
DO NOT use this medicine in children under 2 years of age
Precautions.
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before using this medicine if you or your child:
- have a severe reaction to sympathomimetic medicines (medicines of the adrenaline type) because using Olynth may cause sleeplessness, dizziness, tremor, abnormal heart beat or an increase in blood pressure.
- have heart, blood vessel problems or high blood pressure
- have an overactive thyroid gland, diabetes or other metabolic diseases
- have adrenal gland problems
- have an enlarged prostate gland (prostatic hypertrophy).
Continuous use of the medicine for long periods of time may lead to worsening of congestion symptoms
Special warnings.
Pregnancy and breast-feeding
If you are pregnant or think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any medicine. Olynth should not be used during pregnancy because it is not known how it will affect the unborn baby. If you are breast-feeding, talk to your doctor before using this medicine. It is not known if the active substance passes into breast milk.
Driving and using machines
Olynth 0.5 has no known effect on the ability to drive and use machines.
