Composition

The active substance is acetylsalicylic acid; each effervescent tablet contains 324 mg of acetylsalicylic acid. The other components are: sodium hydrogen carbonate, anhydrous citric acid, povidone K25, dimethicone/calcium silicate, sodium docusate/sodium benzoate, sodium saccharin, lemon flavor, lime flavor.

Therapeutic indications

As an analgesic and antipyretic:

• to relieve mild to moderate pain, in headaches, myalgia, rheumatic joint and periarticular pain, neuralgia, dental pain, dysmenorrhea;
• to reduce fever.

As an anti-inflammatory:

• to combat inflammatory phenomena in acute polyarticular rheumatism;
• to alleviate joint inflammation in rheumatoid arthritis.

If you do not feel better or feel worse after 3-5 days, you should consult a doctor.

Dosage and method of administration

Always take this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure. ALKA-SELTZER should not be administered for more than 3-5 days without consulting a doctor.

Adults

For analgesic and antipyretic effect, 1 – 2 ALKA-SELTZER effervescent tablets (on average 500 mg acetylsalicylic acid) are administered, repeating as needed at 4-hour intervals, without exceeding the maximum daily dose of 9 effervescent tablets.

For anti-inflammatory effect, 9 – 12 ALKA-SELTZER effervescent tablets (on average 3 - 4 g acetylsalicylic acid) per day are administered, in divided doses, at 6-hour intervals, without exceeding the maximum daily dose of 12 effervescent tablets.

Children under 10 years

Administration for analgesic and antipyretic effects in viral conditions is done under medical indication and strict supervision.

Children over 10 years

The recommended daily dose of acetylsalicylic acid for children is 30 - 50 mg/kg divided into 4-6 doses.

For analgesic and antipyretic effect, 324 mg acetylsalicylic acid (1 ALKA-SELTZER effervescent tablet) is administered, repeating as needed at 4 - 8-hour intervals, without exceeding the maximum daily dose of 6 effervescent tablets.

For anti-inflammatory effect in acute polyarticular rheumatism, 85 - 100 mg acetylsalicylic acid/kg per day (not exceeding 3 g per day) is administered, in divided doses, at 4 - 6-hour intervals, for 20 - 30 days; subsequently, 2/3 of the initial dose is administered for 10 - 20 days, then 1/2 – 1/3 for another 30 - 40 days.

Effervescent tablets should be dissolved in a glass of water before administration.

Precautions

Do not take Alka-Seltzer if:

• You are allergic to acetylsalicylic acid or any of the other ingredients of this medicine;
• You have an active gastric or duodenal ulcer;
• You have an increased bleeding tendency (hemorrhagic diathesis);
• You have a history of bronchial asthma induced by salicylates or substances with similar action, especially non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs;
• You are in the last trimester of pregnancy;
• You have severe liver failure;
• You have severe kidney failure;

Special warnings

Pregnancy, breastfeeding, fertility

If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, think you may be pregnant or are planning to have a baby, ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking this medicine.

You must tell your doctor if you become pregnant during a period of treatment with Alka-Seltzer. Alka-Seltzer should not be used in the first and second trimesters of pregnancy without consulting your doctor. Alka-Seltzer should not be used in the last three months of pregnancy, due to an increased risk of complications for the mother and fetus during childbirth.

Small amounts of acetylsalicylic acid and its metabolites pass into breast milk.
