Therapeutic indications

Afrin is used to relieve symptoms of nasal congestion caused by allergic rhinitis, common cold, and sinusitis. It is administered every 12 hours. The active substance is oxymetazoline hydrochloride.

Dosage and administration

Adults, children and adolescents over 10 years of age: 1-2 sprays in each nostril, every 12 hours.

Children aged between 6 and 10 years: 1 spray in each nostril, every 12 hours.

It is not recommended to administer more than 8 sprays for adults (4 sprays for children) within a 24-hour period. The recommended dose should not be exceeded.

Afrin should not be used for more than 7 days, unless your doctor has recommended it. A few days' break should be observed before re-administering the medication.

Shake vigorously before use. Before the first administration, prepare the bottle by pressing the pump several times until the first full spray is released. While holding the bottle upright, insert the spray pump into each nostril in turn and press firmly 1-2 times, while inhaling deeply.

Clean the pump after use. The use of this medication by more than one person can lead to the spread of infection.

Precautions

If Afrin is used for a prolonged period, it may cause a sensation of nasal congestion. Use for more than one week is not recommended. Contact your doctor if symptoms worsen or do not improve after 7 days.
