Green onion (also known as spring onion) is a vegetable derived from different species in the genus Allium. Green onion has, in general, a milder taste than dried onion, and its close relatives include garlic, shallot, leek, scallion and Chinese onion.
Use:
Green onion can be cooked or used raw as part of salads, sauces or Asian recipes, cut into cubes it can be used in soup, noodles and seafood dishes, sandwiches, curry and as part of stir-fry. In China, green onion is commonly used together with ginger and garlic to cook a wide variety of vegetables and meats. The white part of the onion is usually fried with other ingredients, while the green part is usually chopped to decorate the finished dish.
