NICORETTE FRESHFRUIT 2MG X 30GUM

Composition.

The active substance is nicotine. The other ingredients are: core- gum base, xylitol, peppermint oil, anhydrous sodium carbonate, sodium hydrogen carbonate, acesulfame potassium, levomenthol, light magnesium oxide; film: Tutti-frutti QL84441, hypromellose, sucralose, polysorbate 80, outer film coating - xylitol, Acacia, titanium dioxide, carnauba wax, Tutti-frutti QL84441.

Therapeutic indications.

Nicorette Freshfruit is used in the treatment of nicotine dependence by relieving craving and withdrawal symptoms associated with giving up smoking:

- to help smokers give up smoking;

- to help smokers reduce their cigarette consumption in preparation for giving up;

- to help smokers reduce their cigarette consumption when it is impossible or undesirable to smoke.

Dosage and method of administration.

Always use this medicine exactly as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Check with your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.

Each piece of medicated chewing-gum should be chewed slowly for about 30 minutes, with breaks. Nicotine administration should be temporarily discontinued if any symptoms of nicotine overdose appear.

If symptoms of nicotine overdose persist, nicotine use should be reduced either by decreasing the frequency of administration or by using a lower strength.

Medicated chewing-gum should not be used by persons under 18 years of age, unless recommended by a doctor. There are no controlled clinical data to support the use of medicated chewing-gum in adolescents under 18 years of age.

Which strength of Nicorette Freshfruit medicated chewing-gum should you use:

- Nicorette Freshfruit 2 mg medicated chewing-gum if you smoke less than 20 cigarettes a day or if you smoke your first cigarette more than 30 minutes after waking up;

- Nicorette Freshfruit 4 mg medicated chewing-gum if you smoke more than 20 cigarettes a day or if you have been unable to give up smoking using Nicorette Freshfruit 2 mg.

Do not exceed the maximum dose.

The number of pieces you use each day will depend on how strong your cravings are, but the average dose is 8-12 pieces per day. Do not use more than 24 pieces per day. This dose should be used for up to 3 months, by which time you should have broken the habit of smoking. In general, it is not advisable to use this type of treatment for more than 12 months. Some smokers, however, need longer treatment to avoid restarting smoking.

Precautions.

Before starting to use Nicorette Freshfruit talk to your doctor if:

- you have recently had a major cardiovascular event such as a heart attack or stroke;

- you have chest pain or worsening of chest pain including Prinzmetal's angina, severe irregular heart beat;

- you have uncontrolled high blood pressure; - you have a stomach or duodenal ulcer;

- you have oesophagitis;

- you have an overactive thyroid gland;

- you have diabetes that is being treated with insulin (you may need a lower dose of insulin as a result of stopping smoking);

- you have a tumour of the adrenal gland (phaeochromocytoma - your doctor will need to tell you);

- you are under 18 years of age

Special warnings.

Pregnancy and breast-feeding

Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice before taking any medicine. Because smoking can seriously harm your baby or unborn child, you should stop smoking during pregnancy and breast-feeding, if possible, you should do this without using nicotine replacement therapy. Nicotine passes into breast milk in amounts that could harm your baby. Do not use Nicorette while you are breast-feeding. If you are unable to stop smoking without using nicotine replacement therapy, only use Nicorette after consulting your doctor.

Driving and using machines

No effects on the ability to drive or use machines have been observed.

Packaging. It is available in boxes with 2 PVC-PVDC/Al blisters, each containing 15 medicated chewing-gums.
