Therapeutic indications
The active substance in Canesten Gyn Uno is clotrimazole, which belongs to the group of medicines called imidazole derivatives. It has a broad spectrum of action against fungi, meaning it destroys fungi and inhibits their growth. It is also effective against microorganisms such as dermatophytes, yeasts and molds.
Canesten Gyn Uno is used for the treatment of infections of the vagina and external female genitalia, caused by microorganisms sensitive to clotrimazole. Infections are usually caused by fungi of the genus Candida. Symptoms include itching, burning sensation and abundant vaginal discharge.
This medicine can be used by adult women and adolescents from the age of 16.
Dosage and administration
Always use this medicine exactly as described in this leaflet or as your doctor or pharmacist has told you. Talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you are not sure.
The recommended dose is:
- one soft vaginal capsule inserted deeply into the vagina as a single dose, in the evening.
The use of Canesten Gyn Uno is not recommended during the menstrual period. Treatment should be completed before the start of menstruation.
If the sexual partner shows symptoms of fungal infection, these should be treated at the same time.
The soft vaginal capsule should be inserted into the vagina as deeply as possible, at bedtime in the evening, using the applicator provided in the package.
Canesten Gyn Uno is used as a single-dose treatment.
Contact a doctor if symptoms do not significantly improve after 7 days from the start of treatment, to confirm the cause of the infection. If symptoms worsen, consult a doctor.
Precautions
Before using Canesten Gyn Uno, talk to your doctor or pharmacist if you have:
- A vaginal infection for the first time
- Recurrent infections, at least 4 infections within 1 year
- Fever of 38 °C or higher
- Lower abdominal pain, back pain
- Abundant vaginal discharge with an unpleasant odor
- Nausea
- Vaginal bleeding and/or simultaneous shoulder pain
Special warnings
Pregnancy, breastfeeding, fertility
As a precautionary measure, the use of clotrimazole should be avoided in the first three months of pregnancy. During pregnancy, do not use the applicator provided in the package. Therefore, insert the soft vaginal capsule into the vagina with a finger to prevent injury to the cervix.
The use of Canesten Gyn Uno is not recommended during breastfeeding. As a precautionary measure, it is recommended to discontinue breastfeeding during treatment. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for advice.
Driving and using machines
It has no influence on the ability to drive vehicles or operate machinery.
