Preparing the base
In a large pot, heat the oil and sauté the minced beef over high heat until nicely browned (approximately 5–8 minutes). Remove the meat to a bowl and set aside.
In the same pot, sauté the diced onion over medium heat for 7–8 minutes, until translucent. Add the minced garlic and taco seasoning, cook for another 1–2 minutes, then pour in the chopped tomatoes. Use the empty cans to add twice their volume of water to the pot (approximately 4 measures of water).
Cooking the pasta and finishing
Return the browned meat to the pot and let it simmer over medium heat for 8–10 minutes. Add the fusilli pasta and cook according to package instructions (usually 5–8 minutes).
Chef's tip
If you want a spicier taste, you can add a few chili flakes or pickled jalapeño peppers at the end.
