Ingredients

  • 500 g of minced beef (10% fat)
  • 1 teaspoon of dried oregano
  • 1 clove of garlic (crushed)
  • 1 tablespoon of olive oil
  • 400 g of canned chopped tomatoes
  • 2 bay leaves
  • salt to taste
  • black pepper to taste
  • 200 g of white basmati rice
  • 100 g of Greek yogurt
  • a few fresh basil leaves
  • fresh oregano for garnish

Instructions

  • 1
Preheat the oven to 200–210 °C and prepare an oven-safe dish (approximately 30 cm × 40 cm).
  • 2
In a large bowl, mix the minced beef with dried oregano, crushed garlic, olive oil, salt, and pepper. Mix the composition well.
  • 3
In the oven-safe dish, pour 100 ml of water, add the canned chopped tomatoes and bay leaves. Form meatballs of approximately 55–60 g from the meat mixture and place them in the dish, directly in the tomato sauce.
  • 4
Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 15–18 minutes at 200–210 °C, until the meatballs are thoroughly cooked and the sauce has slightly reduced.
  • 5
Meanwhile, cook the basmati rice according to the package instructions.
  • 6
Serve the hot meatballs with basmati rice and a generous spoonful of Greek yogurt. Sprinkle fresh basil or oregano leaves on top for extra flavor.
