Preparation method
In a large saucepan, pour the milk and add the powdered sugar along with the butter. We recommend using a non-stick saucepan to prevent the mixture from sticking or burning.
Place the saucepan over medium heat and stir continuously until the sugar and butter have completely dissolved and the mixture becomes homogeneous.
As soon as the mixture begins to simmer gently (forming small bubbles), reduce the heat to low-medium. Continue to simmer and stir for 15–20 minutes, until the mixture visibly thickens. You can check the density as you go – keep in mind that after cooling, it will have the classic consistency of condensed milk.
Chef's tip
If you want a more intense flavor, you can add a splash of vanilla extract at the end of the cooking process.
Homemade condensed milk can be stored in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 2 weeks.
