Ingredients
Preparation method
Preparing the lentils and rice
Rinse the lentils under cold running water until the water runs clear. Put the lentils in a saucepan with 700 ml of water, half of the ground turmeric, and half a teaspoon of salt. Cook over medium heat for 20-25 minutes, until the lentils become very soft and creamy.
Separately, cook the jasmine rice in lightly salted water according to the package instructions, then keep it covered until serving.
Preparing the aromatic base (Masala)
Finely chop the yellow onion, grate the fresh ginger, and crush 2 cloves of garlic. Dice the tomatoes into small cubes and slice the green chili pepper.
Chef's tip
For an even more intense Indian flavor, add an extra pinch of garam masala or freshly squeezed lemon juice right before serving.
If you want the dal to be even creamier, you can mash some of the cooked lentils with a whisk or wooden spoon before pouring in the tadka mixture.
