  • 3 medium white potatoes (approx. 500 g)
  • ½ small yellow onion, finely chopped (optional)
  • 1 fresh egg (optional, for binding)
  • 2 tablespoons of white flour (optional)
  • 1 pinch of salt
  • 1 pinch of black pepper

    Peel the potatoes and grate them using a large grater. Place the grated potatoes in a clean kitchen towel and squeeze them very well to remove as much liquid as possible. This step is essential for achieving crispy hash browns.

    In a bowl, mix the grated potatoes with the finely chopped onion (if using). Add the egg and flour if you want a more cohesive mixture. Season with salt and pepper to taste.

    Heat a sufficient amount of oil in a pan over medium-high heat. Form flat patties from the mixture (approximately 2-3 tablespoons of mixture for each).

    Place the patties in the hot oil and fry them for 3-4 minutes on each side, until golden and very crispy.

    Remove them onto a paper towel to absorb excess oil. Serve them hot as a side dish for breakfast or as is, with your favorite sauce.

    Tip: For a healthier option, you can bake the hash browns in the oven, on baking paper, at 200°C for approximately 20-25 minutes.
