Preparing the Cake Base
Preheat the oven to 180 °C (top and bottom heat). Prepare a baking tray lined with baking paper.
Beat the soft butter with sugar for at least 5 minutes, until fluffy. Add the eggs one by one, mixing well after each.
Mix the buttermilk with the red food coloring. In another bowl, sift the spelt flour together with the cocoa powder.
Chef's tip
For an even fluffier cake base, make sure all ingredients are at room temperature before starting.
